Make sure you pack your hiking gear and especially good walking boots if you head to Santa Fe, New Mexico – there are several spectacular spots for getting outdoors and enjoying the beautiful scenery here, two in particular are Bandelier and the other is the Coronado State Monument Both provide deceptively easy looking terrain but the visitor is at real risk here both from the terrain and the extremely hot conditions which also make hydration a life saving necessity

Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday came from Paris, France where it has been celebrated since the Middle Ages but here in America we had to wait until 1699 In that year, the French explorer Iberville reconnoitered the Mississippi River down to the Gulf of Mexico and ended up at a point some 60 miles south of current day New Orleans on March 3rd – true to French form they christened the spot Point du Mardi Gras

Bandelier National Monument in northern New Mexico is one of the premier attractions for visitors to Santa Fe and provides spectacular scenery and vantage points as well as a look into distant, ancient times when native North American peoples inhabited the area
You can climb into wooden cavates which are small, in some instances tiny dwellings hand carved into the rock face and sheltered the native Indians for thousands of years prior to the discovery of America by the Europeans in the 15th century
