Hungary? You should seriously try some Goulash. This national dish of Hungary is what epitomizes a holiday to Budapest meaty and filling. There is so much to do in the city of Budapest that it is hard to know where to start.

This is not a city that you can just pass through in the hope of seeing just the main attractions. You have to spend at least a full week in the city in order to appreciate the magnitude and the vibe.

As a city that was once under communist rule, the place has changed much in the last few decades. After a massive construction boom in the early nineties, the city has now reached a point where it can stand shoulder to shoulder with cities like London, Moscow and Rome.

Depending on where you stay, you should consider renting a car. If you do not wish to stay in the city centre itself then you can find a quaint holiday apartment where you can come and go as you please. Having a car will allow you to see the main sights at your leisure. One place you should see is the Central Market Hall. This behemoth of a structure is made up of three floors of shopping heaven. Although this area attracts thousands of tourists every day, it is also frequented by the general Hungarian citizen looking to do some shopping. The market allows you to find anything you want from fresh produce to clothing. This is also a great place to find authentic Hungarian ware as gifts for your loved ones when you return home.

If you are interested in architecture then you should check out the parliament building. This structure is inspired by the neo-Gothic era and boasts a 300 meter stretch along the beautiful Danube River. If you are thinking of taking a tour of the inside then make sure that you are wearing comfortable walking shoes. The corridors stretch for almost 20km in total and there are over 700 rooms to see that excludes all the court houses and courtyards. This building is the largest building of parliament in the whole of Europe.

Another great place to visit is Margaret Island known as Margitsziget by the locals in Budapest. This island is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the main city centre, especially if you are looking for a relaxing holiday. The island is made up of beautiful gardens and serene picnic spots which make it perfect for a romantic getaway. If you are a young couple looking at tying the knot then this is the perfect place to propose.

There is so much to see in Budapest that you have to do your research before you arrive. This can be done on the Internet or by visiting a travel agent that specializes in holidays to Budapest.
